Many students in the program come straight from high school with an Associate's Degree, which can have both positive and negative effects. Do they get the same college experience as traditional freshmen? Did their classes in high school adequately prepare them for the transition to a four-year university? I compiled the data from online survey responses, focus groups, and statistical data to discuss these questions and more.

Putting technology and creativity together is a passion of mine

so I was excited to help with implementing more interactive information on the UCAC website.

Here are some examples of the monthly newsletters I created.

I edited this video with iMovie. We had so much much fun making this and continue to get a lot of positive feedback from the new transfer students we send it to each semester!

As the advising center intern, I was able to shadow advising appointments and get acquainted with computer programs used by the university such as SARS and Banner. By the end of the semester, I was conducting my own advising appointments.

My special project was centered around a small group of non-traditional students at Texas State. Several students come into college with transfer credits for courses they took while still in high school, but a new,  grant-funded program called the Early College High School Initiative makes it possible for students to take dual credit courses for free.

Your First Advising Appointment: What to Expect

The University College Advising Center (UCAC) at Texas State provides students with direction, decision-making skills, materials, course options, and referrals to assist in the career exploration process. The focus is on academic advising for students who are in the process of exploring and selecting a major.
